The Start; Coming When Called

So I've decided to do something productive with my life and Diesel's, which is, training and reinforcing behaviors! I am aiming towards getting his CGC and his TDI. I will also be adding videos when I take them.

Tonight we started with reinforcing the command "come." I went to an empty parking lot beside my house and let Diesel off leash and just walked around with the treats out of sight. I'd randomly say "Diesel, come here" and gave him a treat once he came and sat in front of me. I had to say "sit" every time he came, so I can slowly build up the connection that in order to get a treat he needs to come and sit when he arrives.

He did great until he got distracted... like 3 times? Otherwise he was quick, excited and caught on quickly. We engaged in playing, then out of the blue, I'd call him over and he'd happily run towards me. Then once I asked him to sit, he did and he'd receive the treat.

I had changed his diet to strictly kibble, to make human food/treats that much more exciting for him and it's helped a lot.

Tomorrow we will go back out again maybe 2 or 3 times. I'll see how he does the second time. I don't want to push him to where he gets shaky and shuts down. But we'll do it in the morning and nighttime again. Different parking lots with minimal distractions. For now on, no more off leash play time until he is 100% reliable and if I can call him off his distractions.

But I'm going to try to update this everyday or as much as possible with videos, commentary, and how I am training him.
